and sounded like a grouch attacking president obama. a very political speech which i thought was discordant yesterday. there were two -- captain kelly, gabby giffords's husband, and the captain of the bald moore county sheriff's department james johnson who spoke very powerfully articulately and eloquently for common sense gun control measures, and then the other side of the panel, there were three gun nuts on the panel. david coppel, a professor from denver, a woman gail trotter, and wayne lapierre from the nra. gail trotter was out of her mine. i mean, she said guns -- i got the exact quote here -- that guns have to -- guns keep women safe. guns keep women safe. guns make women safe is the exact quote. and every mother needs an ak-15 in the home to protect their kids. and of course wayne lapierre comes back and says the only answer is we have to make every school an armed camp. >> it's time to throw an immediate blanket of security around our children. about a third of our schools right now have armed security already, because it works, and that somebody is grow

't the first time when they controlled everything. >> yeah, there's a reason that president obama almost never mentioned the words climate change and cap and trade during the the campaign, paul, because they're political losers, they're big tax increases on workers, on union workers, on manufacturing workers, and so, the democrats have avoided that issue now that they've won this election, they've sort of sprung it on people and i don't believe the votes are there in the united states senate or the house to pass anything like the carbon tax, or the democrats are talking an energy tax, like a gasoline tax, kim is right. if they're going to do this, through the regulatory angle and outlaw in that way. >> paul: but then, james, why mention it so prominently, or was this sort after bait and switch for the environmentalists and mention it and in policy terms don't. >> there may be some bait and switch, but this is key. if he doesn't need to get anything through the congress, like the potomac swatch-- >> kim strassel. >> so well. they think that they have a court decision a few years empowers them t

more aggressively? we being the u.s. government? >> we had a political narrative, the obama administration did, of the george bush equivalent of mission accomplished. it was job well done. we wanted the narrative to say everything is okay in libya. it's been a wonderful success story. she did have time to go through the tv shows when it was a victory lap about the libya, the overthrow of gaddafi, she has better things to do on sunday mornings than explain this failure in leadership and failure in accountability and failure of our intelligence or what happened. we still don't have a clear picture. >> congresswoman thanks so much for coming in. >> thank you. >> coming up, perfume for babies? sounds slightly ridiculous, right? wrong. coming to a store near you. >> then are you ready for some football? clayton has the gadgets and gizmos to take your super bowl party to a whole new level. i wish he had the nachos. >> welt. >> you ready for some football. the countdown is on for the super bowl. lucky for you clayton has the gantle you need to make your party teched out. >> nertd -

of the obama machine. >> if i can follow up quickly, we saw mackerel politics in this election and i was shocked by it. it has got to be filtered down into micro targeting. have a national election anymore. we had an election of about eight states. the obama people were smart enough to figure that out. they went to those eight states and in line data. they did it on facebook, all these other places. they killed us. they spent tens of millions of dollars. chris christies stock in june. looking at the records, we are in trouble. millions of dollars, it was the 2012 equivalent of what i did in 1994. i had no money, so for a year, i went door to door knocked on doors. i did not talk to anyone else for 18 months. outside of that, they focused on it. we have to get past this idea. it is going to break the last weekend because 30,000 people at the pennsylvania rally, how exciting. 35,000 people were crazy. they said i have never seen anything like it. the election was over because obama as people targeted voters, found them on line, dragged them out, people calling three times in one day on

cars and that's politically inconvenient truth in higher gasoline prices move in that direction. i think we remember what the energy secretary said at the beginning of barack obama's term. we have need have gasoline prices as high as europe. he's been criticized by republicans ever since. would you agree, it's politically inconvenient but also an open secret? >> i wouldn't say that. yms don't forget the first thing that happens when the prices go up is people downsize. they get smaller vehicles, and that's not a very -- technology or shift to different fuels. it's kind of reality. so don't forget consumers have incredible choice. that's our job to provide them with choice with a good product and meet their needs. but it's the idea that we're going, you know, funnel consumers in to some policy-driven choices here, i think it's we're optimistic. >> as well. the other half of the equation, i but the other half of the equation is what can we do as automakers? and, you know, trying to innovate, trying to reduce costs, trying to develop new technology, compete with one another, you know,

enough for him, bill, to defeat the republicans politically or even based on policy which you would expect from any president. for president obama it is about pounding the republican party into oblivion. bill: let me talk about how republicans react to this in a moment, monica. emily, get on record, what do you think about the dustbin of history from speaker boehner? >> i think it is disappointing john boehner would go to the extreme talking points. he has not always been an extreme guy. he has been in the house for a long time. look to president obama, look actually at his record. when we moved into the sequester fight in early december, the first thing out of president obama's mouth he would look at any good idea regardless who it came from. he has consistent history of trying to work across the aisle. bill: does he now? bipartisan? >> the ideas that he a lick tated in the inauguration speech, those are american values. these are not traditionally democratic values. republicans used to be able to talk about these issues. it is really the republican party that has left the center,

such weapons. that puts him at odds with many of his fellow republicans. >>> political insiders say it looked more like a campaign event than a presidential speech. president obama pushed for immigration reform before an enthusiastic crowd in las vegas yesterday. his proposal is very similar to one being put forth by a group of bipartisan senators. >> action must follow. we can't allow immigration reform to get bogged down in an endless debate. >> the two proposals focus on the same main principle. finding a way towards citizenship for the 11 million immigrants living here illegally. >> obviously, there's certainly -- the chances are higher now that something is going to happen on this issue compared to years past. the biggest hurdle, though, is that folks who aren't too crazy about this idea are saying in order for these things to happen, let's focus on border security. as long as folks can just flood into the country, it makes no difference what we're doing on the legislative side of things. that's going to become a sticking point. they're saying border patrol at the same time we're creatin
